We often envy rich and successful businesspeople because of the mental image we build of their lifestyle. However they are often not that different from common people apart from the fact that they have millions of dollars in assets. As a matter of fact, they are often pretty ordinary individuals who live their lives according to a specific set of rules that got them where they are today. In this article I decided to compile what in my opinion are the 6 most common habits of millionaires .

1. They control their investments

Individuals who built their wealth from the ground up have a solid understanding of how to make money and more importantly how to keep it. They invest their funds in vehicles that will yield high and stable returns in the long run. This includes real estate, investment portfolios and startups. They understand the importance of diversification and they surround themselves with people who provide them with privileged information about future market trends. There are ways you can do the same at your own level by saving money, educating yourself on the investment options that are available to you are staying informed about the economy.

2. They never stop learning

A lot of wealthy people spend their free time educating themselves and gaining more knowledge about specific topics. They understand that knowledge is limitless and it is the main tool that gives you an edge over the rest of the world. They key is to find the time to forward that learning process while being busy with work and personal matters. Therefore they use every opportunity they have during the day, like listening to an audiobook while working out or driving.

3. They value their time

Millionaires are probably the people who understand the most the importance and value of time. While most of us spend several hours a week watching TV shows and browsing social media, rich people tend to make the most of that precious commodity to get ahead in life. Since working full-time or running a business already consumes a lot of time, you should make very smart decisions about how you will utilize the remaining hours of your day. The activities you do and the people you choose to surround yourself with will heavily influence your success in the long run.

4. They rule out perfection

Some people spend hours and months on one task to make it perfect, whereas successful businesspeople are more focused on getting things done while recognizing there is always room for improvement. They know that perfection is a myth that can divert people from the path of better-spent energy. Once you accept the fact that nothing can be perfect, it will increase your productivity and it will help you focus on your next step instead of wasting valuable time trying to improve something that is already working fairly well.

5. They are Organized

In a video that recently went viral, an Army general started his speech at a graduation ceremony by saying “If you want to change the world, start by making your bed in the morning”. This is a great metaphor to illustrate the importance of being organized in order to get ahead in life. The vast majority of business millionaires are very good planners. They have a specific idea of their end goal and they set up S.M.A.R.T steps to achieve them. S.M.A.R.T stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely. However the only way to do this is to be organized or to work with people that are good with managing tasks. If you love to-do lists them use them at your advantage to prioritize the things that will accelerate your chances of moving forward.

6. They take care of themselves

A healthy lifestyle is essential for people who work very long hours towards the accomplishment of their life goals. Good eating habits, stable sleeping patterns and regular exercise are part of the things that keep people focused and balanced. There are a lot of ways you could do the same without ruining yourself, and if you want to be a successful millionaire one day, feeding your body and spirit with the right nutrients is the very first step.
